Lil Nas X Dresses Down His Haters About His Halloween Costume

Lil Nas X paid homage to Nicki Minaj’ Super Bass video in a Halloween Costume that left many in the Twitterverse clutching their pearls or snapping their fingers. Despite receiving nearly 500K likes on Twitter and nearly 80,000 retweets, some followers felt that the “Old Town Road,” rapper, 21, famous for ruling the music chart with the longest-running number one song in history, had either “snapped” or dissed Minaj.
Rapper Dave East used a Jamaican gay slur to attack Nas X and his costume choice, saying: “And y’all was mad at me about this n***a. Bati mon bun up!!!!”
“Bati mon” is a slur used against gay men in the Caribbean island, known for its anti-gay laws. Nas X corrected and threw shade at East in a since deleted tweet: “N****s can’t even be homophobic the proper way smh butchering the hell out of the patois.”
Many of Nas X’ followers came to his defense. One such fan @lilnasxf tweeted: “llysm..don’t let the haters get to you bc at the end of the day, your making people happy and your the one successful….and literally Dave east over here obsessed with you and the lgbtq+ community…but no one can name on song by him…🙄…lly ♥️”
In response to East, Nas X later tweeted “bro i don’t bother a soul in this industry. all i do is tweet and make bangers. leave me alone damn.” The following day, he pointed out the lunacy of the attention he’s received about a Halloween costume: “it’s november 2nd and grown men are waking up to have a group discussion about a costume i wore on halloween.”
Nas X has received a lot of disrespect since he came out publicly as gay in a music genre not known for out gay rappers and for his flamboyant clothing choices.
Even rapper 50 Cent, seemingly bothered by the photos, summoned Nicki Minaj while misspelling her name, to respond to Nas X’ costume, saying: “What the f**k. Nikki come get him!!! Lol.”
An unlikely outcome since Nas X, prior to becoming famous, ran Minaj’s stan account called Nas Maraj.
So far, there has been no response from Minaj, who gave birth less than two months ago and likely has more important things to deal with. The Halloween costume was executed to perfection. Makeup artist Kade Gottlieb who many may know as his drag personality Gottmik gave Nas X a tight face beat.
